Matej Skerlj and his wife Kristina are the epitome of winemakers with both feet on the ground. With immense humility and equally hard work, they are third generation to tend the family vineyards in Carso on the border of Slovenia.

The vineyards are cultivated with great care and the production is microscopic. In the cellar Matej sticks to traditions which means a minimal addition of sulphur, no cultured yeasts, 100% destemming, about three weeks of maceration on the skins followed by two years of ageing in old barrels and bottling without fining or filtration. The wines of Skerlj are understated yet extremely serious while showing great precision, finesse and complexity.
