E. Molino

Piedmont

Sergio Molino is one of the most respected consulting oenologists in Piedmont, yet he keeps a deliberately low profile and avoids drawing attention to his own wines out of respect for the growers he works with. E. Molino is his personal project – a quiet tribute to his father – and a name that largely circulates among those who know what they are looking for. We always make a point of seeking out his wines when we are in Piedmont and are pleased to be able to introduce this small gem to Denmark.

The style is classical and precise, with a clear emphasis on elegance over power. His Barolo is light on its feet with fine tannins, lifted aromatics and a cool and balanced structure. These are wines that clearly reflect the discipline, experience and expertise Sergio has developed through his work as a consultant.

The Bricco Rocca vineyard, planted by his father Ernesto Molino in 1951, lies in Annunziata in La Morra, set lower on the slope and therefore cooler than many of the top parcels. With just 2.5 hectares under vine, this is true micro-production, which Sergio approaches with great care and a firm belief that great wine is made first and foremost in the vineyard.

This is not a project driven by visibility or ambition, but by a desire to create something personal, rooted in history, craftsmanship and his father’s legacy. The vinification is classically Piedmontese, without unnecessary intervention – precise, controlled and respectful of the raw material. The result is a set of finely crafted wines produced in very small quantities that feel like a well-kept secret.?

Below are our suggestions for wines that are not necessary similar, but stylistically fits some of the same markers as the wine you are currently looking at. For each of the producers we work with, we have tried to answer the question: "If you like the wines from this producer, which other wines from our portfolio would be something you would enjoy?".
