Max Sein Wein
We are proud to be representing Max Sein Wein – a producer of wines with great personality and presence. Maximilian Baumann takes his craft very seriously but also remembers to enjoy the ride. We’re excited to follow him and his domaine for many years to come.
Maximilian’s wines are precise, acidic and mineral with plenty of freshness. The whites – especially Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau – are vibrant and chalky in texture, while the macerated wines add extra depth. The reds, made from Pinot Noir and Meunier, are light and juicy – with equal parts finesse and personality.
Max grew up among the vines in Dertingen, in the far northeastern corner of Baden. His father became a winemaker in 1988, and in 2016 Max took the leap and founded Max Sein Wein. He’s gained experience in Germany, Austria, and New Zealand, but it is back home on the limestone slopes along the Tauber River that he truly comes into his own. These are wines with deep roots in both the soil and the family.
Max Sein Wein currently covers 5.3 hectares spread across three villages, and the vineyards are high and open shaped by sunny days and cold nights. His day-to-day work clearly reflects a commitment to healthy, living soils and rich biodiversity. In the cellar, Max uses only old barrels as he wants the benefits of micro-oxygenation without the taste of wood. His approach is firmly hands-off: These are expressive, unconstrained wines that speak with a voice of their own.
Lieu-dit recommends
Below are our suggestions for wines that are not necessary similar, but stylistically fits some of the same markers as the wine you are currently looking at. For each of the producers we work with, we have tried to answer the question: "If you like the wines from this producer, which other wines from our portfolio would be something you would enjoy?".
