Massa Vecchia
Massa Vecchia is located at the foot of the hills of Massa Marittima in Tuscany. Apart from making wine, the farm also produces olive oil and cereals and has belonged to the family since 1985 where it was founded by Fabrizio Niccolaini.
A natural approach is seen as a necessity to make wine that reflects the area. At the same time, Fabrizio has a strong belief that authentic wine, which has not been manipulated will change and evolve for the rest of its life like any other living thing. All work in the vineyards is done by hand and by working together with nature and its cycles without counteracting the natural processes.
The wines are made with minimal intervention and no added sulphur whatsoever. They reflect the soil that they come from but are far from classic Tuscan wine. They are unmanipulated and vibrant, yet still balanced, and if you apply different criteria than those of Robert Parker, you can even call them great wines.
After retiring from Massa Vecchia in 2009 to become self-sufficient and make a single wine with his project Aia Vecchia, Fabrizio Niccolaini returned to Massa Vecchia in 2019.
