Laurence & Rémi Dufaitre

Beaujolais

In 2010, Laurence and Rémi Dufaitre founded Domaine de Botheland in Saint-Étienne-des-Oullières in southern Beaujolais, where the Brouilly appellation meets Beaujolais-Villages. As early as 2006, they began acquiring vineyards in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly, and the vineyards have been cultivated with great insight and care from the beginning of the domaine.

However, it was not until 2010 that they thought that the grapes were of such a high quality that they could make the type of wine that they wanted, so the grapes were sold to the local cooperative for the first few years. In the cellar, work is done using whole grape clusters, carbonic maceration in large cement tanks and no cultured yeast, fining or filtration. Remí strives for an extremely gentle extraction, where he keeps as little free must in the tank as possible.

In many vintages, bottling is completely without added sulphur, and if the vintage does not allow this, sulphur is only added in extremely small doses just before bottling. The wines of Laurence and Rémi Dufaitre are generally characterized by great lightness and finesse. They are serious wines with lots of depth and complexity, but always delivered in an extremely easy-drinking and refreshing packaging.
