Gilles Berlioz
Gilles Berlioz established his domaine in 1990 when he inherited two hectares of vineyards from his father in Chignin, Savoie. The family had not previously worked with viticulture as a primary occupation, but Gilles decided to embark on a career as a self-taught winemaker. Today, the domaine encompasses approximately 3.5 hectares of vineyards, and Gilles believes this to be a good size when you do not want to have many employees and instead carry out most work in the vineyard using horses and manual labour. Gilles works with local grape varieties such as Mondeuse, Roussanne, Jacquère and Altesse, all of which give low yields. The ambition is to produce micro cuvées that highlight the various terroirs around Chignin. In the cellar, Gilles Berlioz works in accordance with the lunar phases, without the use of pumps and with a minimal addition of sulphur.
